(Washington, DC) — U.S. Senator Dick Durbin is speaking out after facing backlash for voting for a Republican-led measure that would end the government shutdown. Speaking on the Senate floor yesterday, the Illinois Democrat said many of his friends are unhappy, believing they should have kept the government closed indefinitely to protest the policies of the Trump administration.
The bill includes a “minibus” of three full-year appropriations measures, provides full funding for SNAP benefits through next September, and keeps most of the government running on a short-term basis through January 30th.
