Several area athletes who are now playing at the collegiate level saw their basketball seasons get under this last week or will see action get underway this weekend.
Altamont grad Claire Boehm is off to a quick start with the Lincoln Trail Lady Statesmen in her sophomore season. Boehm has played in all three games so far averaging 9 points a game for the 1-2 Lady Statesmen. In Lincoln Trail’s home opening win earlier this week over St. Louis Community College, she had 19 points, 7 rebounds, and 2 steals.
Altamont grad Kylie Osteen is also off to a quick start as a freshman with the Kaskaskia College Blue Angels. In KC’s season opening win over Shawnee Community College, Osteen had 8 points, 5 rebounds, an assist, a steal and a block. KC will be back in action this weekend with a pair of games at Lake Land College as they face Olney Central College at 5:00pm tonight and then play Black Hawk College on Saturday.
Altamont grad Grace Nelson made her debut for the Illinois State Lady Redbirds in a win over Dayton on Monday. After suffering a knee injury that kept her out last season as a freshman, Nelson came back from her redshirt season and finished with three points, an assist and a steal in the season opening win. The Redbirds will be back in action this weekend when they play at Illinois on Sunday.
South Central grad Kaitlyn Swift who originally signed to play softball for the Olney Central College Lady Knights is now also a member of the women’s basketball team and has gotten minutes in each of the first two OCC games as the Lady Knights have started the season 0-2 with losses to Three Rivers Community College and Northeastern Oklahoma AM College.
Brownstown grad Lexi Seabaugh is set to begin her sophomore season this weekend for the University of Dubuque. The Spartans will begin their season on Saturday on the road at Marian University before playing on the road again on Wednesday at Lakeland University.
