Vandalia Mayor Doug Knebel talks about some potential traffic options at one busy intersection in town.

Over the years, there has been some discussion about the intersection at Illinois Route 185, Veterans Avenue and Sunset Drive. At one time many years ago, the City of Vandalia contacted the Illinois Department of Transportation about potentially getting a stop light at the intersection. But, at the time they were told that wouldn’t be an option–but that a roundabout would be. For those that may not know, a roundabout is a type of circular road in which traffic is permitted to flow in one direction around a central island. In the past 10 days or so on social media, discussion resurfaced about a potential roundabout at that intersection. Speaking on our podcast, “Talking about Vandalia,” Mayor Knebel said he would be interested in looking at some kind of solution for that intersection, although he’s not sure a roundabout is viable there.
