The City of Vandalia is again reminding residents about the rules from LRS on trash pick up.
During Monday’s Vandalia City Council meeting, City Clerk Carla Huhn says they are continuing to get photos from LRS in regards to individuals not following the guidelines for trash pick up. Huhn says that is leading to individuals not getting their trash picked up on their regular day. She also adds LRS uses the “claw” to pick up the toters and the drivers do not get out of their truck. She adds that LRS does not want drivers out of the truck due to insurance purposes. Huhn says that individuals are also saying they do not know the rules. So, the City of Vandalia is planning to include those rules with the next City Water Bill cycle.
The rules for Trash Pick up from LRS as as follows—
Only garbage and other refuse placed within the 96 gallon container provided by LRS shall be accepted for pickup. LRS will not collect garbage sitting on the ground around the toter. In the event either container is damaged by the household, said household will be responsible for the $65.00 replacement cost.
Lid on toter must shut flush to safely dump – no large items in toter and no excess bags piled on top, OR TRASH WILL NOT BE SERVICED. Please do not overload the toter like a Jenga game. If one toter isn’t enough, please contact the Clerk’s office to set up an additional toter at (618) 283-1196.
LRS shall not be required to collect on Sundays and the following holidays: New Year’s Day, Good Friday, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Veterans Day, Thanksgiving Day and Christmas Day. Pickups falling on a holiday will be made on the following day.
Pickups shall be at the street only, at the curb or road line. In the event of multiple toters, 3’ needs to be left between the toters for easy pickup.
Toter placement must be out to the street with lid opening facing the road (the lids have stickers showing which way to face) – away from obstacles such as cars & signs and not setting in the ditch.
OCCASIONAL bulk trash items need to be called in to schedule for pick up & cost of extra disposal.
It is recommended that you set toter out night before if possible (or no later than 6 am) – this helps ensure that trash will be serviced.
Yard waste such as lawn clippings, tree trimmings, plants or dirt will not be picked up by our trash provider.
You may purchase an additional toter for an extra $8 per month.
