
Lois Mae Koelmel, 92, died at 10:35 a.m. on Saturday, October 4, 2025 at Evercare of Breese. She was born April 17, 1933 in Fayette County, IL the daughter of the late Hessie and Rovilla (Swarm) Fair. Lois retired after more than 30 plus years as a beautician. On January 17, 1954 she married Melvin Eugene Koelmel, and he preceded her in death on June 12, 2009. Surviving are nieces and nephews, Dale Black and Sharon “Dolly” Lawler (Ken), Sandy Wilson (Dennis), Larry Koelmel (Tammy), Connie Bickers (Tom), Terry Koelmel (Theresa Shell), Rodney Koelmel(Shelley) and Rick Koelmel (Margaret) and several great nieces and nephews, Max Mattes (Linda), Elvis Mattes, Lisa Owen (Mark), Matthew Black, Brian Black (Charisse), and many loved ones including great nieces and nephews. Besides her husband she was preceded in death by one brother, Robert Fair, two sisters, Lola Lash, Jennie Black, one nephew, Denny Black and one niece, Shirley Mattes and her husband Elvis and two nieces, Donna Black and Lynette Koelmel one brother and sister in law, Glen and Norma Jean Koelmel, great nephew, Jud and Frank Lawler, Andrew Black, great nephew, Cory Hubbell and great nephew, Bruce Black. Visitation will be from 9:30 a.m. until time of funeral service at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, October 13, 2025 at Gent Funeral Home in Alton. Burial at the German Reformed Cemetery in Vandalia, IL.
