City of Vandalia Water and Sewer customers will see a rate increase starting on October 1st. And, Mayor Doug Knebel further discusses the issue.
As reported on Tuesday, the Vandalia City Council did not take action on their water and sewer audit report and recommendation. And, that means that a 20.04% rate increase for water an a 7.54% rate increase for sewer will now go into place beginning next month. Speaking on our podcast “Talking about Vandalia,” Mayor Doug Knebel says this is how the nearly 30 year old ordinance is designed to work.
The reasoning for allowing the larger increase to go into place by the City Council was partly to keep up with increased costs in water production and to also start to offset what will be increase rates when the new Water Treatment Plant comes on line in the future. Mayor Knebel says that is something they have to think about and he also explains they have to keep up with any increase in water production rates because they want to make sure the money coming in matches what it costs to produce water.
