Dane Lenington, age 73, of Greenville, passed away at 3:40 am, Saturday August 30th, 2025, at St. John’s Hospital in Springfield, IL. Per Dane’s wishes, cremation rites will be accorded. There will be no services at this time. A celebration of life will be held by the family at a later date.
Dane Lenington was born in Wood River, IL on November 9, 1951, the son of Joyce and Robert “Bud” Blaylock. At the age of 4 years, due to changes within his family structure, Dane was adopted by Lindle and Lucille Lenington of Bethalto, IL. The Lenington family moved to Greenville in 1965 and established their family business, Lynn’s True Value Hardware. Dane married Carol Ann Eyman of Mulberry Grove, IL on December 11th, 1971.
Dane loved his family and took them on many adventures around the United States as he chased the American Dream. Dane had many careers over his lifetime…helping at the family hardware store, typewriter salesman, construction for many years, hog confinement manager, for PIC, one of the biggest pig producers in the UK, motorcycle parts and repairman. Later in his life he gained his master’s degree in social work and had an opportunity to interact with and assist many disadvantaged individuals to resolve their personal life issues. He retired in 2019.
Dane was a man with great curiosity and had many interests and hobbies over his lifetime. Motorcycles and motorcycle repair being a big one. He and his wife, Carol, owned and operated their own shop, DL Motorcycle Works, for many years in Pittsburg and Mulberry Grove, IL. He was an avid gardener, grower of grapes and making homemade wine. He enjoyed building computers and anything he could tinker with. He was a musician and had an enormous collection of albums and different instruments. He loved a good antique store and was very proud of his various treasures. He loved books, music, and movies, and passed this appreciation onto his family. He was always the center of attention, right to the end. Always holding court in some way, with his stories, sharing knowledge on this or that, or just being ornery.
Dane is survived in life by his son, John Lenington (Grace) of Livingston, IL and ex-wife, Debbie Hurst of Wyoming. His wife, Carol Lenington, and their daughters, Jennifer Bone (Jason) of Vandalia, IL and Danielle Ramseyer (Adam) of Holiday Shores, IL. Grandchildren: Megan, Jerod, Gracie, Hudson, Reiley, L’Wren, and Tabitha.
Also survived by siblings Shari (Lenington) Grant (Denny), Sherry (Blaylock) Letson (Marty), Terry (Blaylock) Turnbaugh, and Roger Blaylock. Dane was preceded in death by his son, Nathan Dane Lenington, birth parents, Joyce and Robert Blaylock, adopted parents, Lindell and Lucille Lenington, and sister Vicki Blaylock. Reuniting and blending these two families in his later life, created an extended family which forged many great bonds. Most especially with his younger brother, Roger Blaylock who became a great comrade and later his caregiver.
