(Springfield, IL) — Former Illinois Governor Jim Edgar is dead at the age of 79. His family announced his passing yesterday following a battle with pancreatic cancer. Edgar served as governor from 1991 to 1999 and was the last Republican governor in Illinois to be elected to more than one term. He was honored in May when the Illinois State Library’s reading room was renamed in his honor.
