(Cahokia, IL) — The Illinois Attorney General’s office has found that the Cahokia Village Board of Trustees violated the state’s Open Meetings Act when they barred a member of the public from addressing the board last August. The ruling said the board’s practice of requiring speakers to fill out a form seven hours in advance to be granted permission to speak during a meeting is barred under the law. The question arose when a citizen complained to the Attorney General after seeing a woman escorted by police from a meeting under orders of Mayor Curtis McCall. McCall hasn’t commented on the ruling.
