
Russell Wayne Slightom, 74, of Hillsboro, passed away Thursday, August 28, 2025, at HSHS St. John’s Hospital in Springfield. Russell was born on March 24, 1951, in Litchfield, IL, a son of Edward William and Marjorie Ruth (Pruitt) Slightom. He graduated from Hillsboro High School with the class of 1969. He was a dedicated coal miner for 42 years, working for several coal mines including those in Coffeen, Crown II, Crown III, Consol-Waltonville, and Arch-Pinckneyville. Russell was a member of the United Mine Workers of America and was a proud outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting and fishing.

Sons, Cory (Carolyn) Slightom of Fillmore, IL and Shane (Lucy) Slightom of Ramsey, IL
Daughter, Wendi (Jeff Scattergood) Slightom of Taylorville, IL
Brother, Larry Slightom of Hillsboro, IL
Sister, Lena Beck of Hillsboro
Grandchildren, Mila Scattergood, Heidi Slightom, Ian Slightom, Colby Reitz, Weston Slightom, and Otto Slightom.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Edward W. and Marjorie R. Slightom, brothers William Slightom, Jr., and Lyndle Slightom, and a sister-in-law, Carolyn Sue (Blankenship) Slightom.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, September 3, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. at Plummer Funeral Home in Litchfield. Fr. Mike Meinhardt will preside. Burial will follow in Elm Lawn Cemetery in Litchfield. Visitation will be held from 9:00 a.m. until service time at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully asks that you consider a memorial to the Montgomery County Cancer Association or the Hillsboro Volunteer Fire Department.
