(Springfield, IL) — The former Sangamon County Sheriff’s deputy charged in the killing of Sonya Massey last year is back in Springfield. Sangamon County Sheriff Paula Crouch announced that Sean Grayson was transferred from the Macon County Jail to the Sangamon County Jail yesterday to accommodate “ongoing medical procedures and follow-up appointments.” Grayson is dealing with complications of Stage 3 colon cancer. He is charged with first-degree murder in the shooting death of the 36-year-old Black woman in July 2024 inside her home. His trial date is set for October 20th in Peoria County.
