A Ramsey boy is looking for the public’s help to win the Colossal Junior Ranger Competition.
8 year old Malachi Garcia of Ramsey is currently in the quarterfinals of the competition, having advanced into the top 1% of competitors nationwide and having already advanced through 4 rounds of public voting. But, he does need the public’s help in voting for him to advance out of this round, which ends on Thursday, July 10th.
If Malachi wins, he’ll receive $20,000, a trip with wildlife expert Jeff Corwin, and a feature in “Ranger Rick” magazine. Malachi’s dream is one day become an Entomologist or Zoologist.

Malachi’s Q & A—–
Malachi
Malachi has a huge passion for nature! He is curious, knowledgeable, adventurous, and fearless when
interacting with all kinds of wildlife.
What does Malachi love most about nature?
Malachi says, “I like animals the best because they each have special and unique abilities! Some animals
are cute and some are ugly, but they all have a purpose and I love all of them!”
What is Malachi’s favorite animal—and why?
Malachi’s favorite animal is an alligator snapping turtle. He likes that they live in swampy habitats, are
big, have spikes and look tough. Another amazing feature he loves about alligator snapping turtles are
“their unique tongue that wiggles under water and makes an illusion attracting fish because it looks like a
worm!”.
What is Malachi’s favorite outdoor activity?
Malachi enjoys climbing trees and observing animals in their habitats. He has learned so much by just the
power of observation. He describes these times as making him feel happy and he uses this as a technique
to calm down and experience peaceful moments. One of his favorite trees to climb in an Eastern White
Pine as they are very tall and the branches seem like a ladder. He loves catching small lizards (as seen in
his profile photo), handling snakes, and allowing insects to land on him
