(Springfield, IL) — Illinoisians will start paying more for vapes and tobacco products. Next week, the tax on tobacco and vaping products will increase by 45-percent of the wholesale price. Cigars, chewing tobacco, and synthetic nicotine products are included in the list. Lawmakers claim the extra taxes will raise 50-million-dollars for Illinois. The tax increase takes effect on July 1st.
