Governor J.B. Pritzker is set to join Democratic Governors to defend their state’s sanctuary policies before Congress today. The hearing comes as tensions have risen since President Donald Trump mobilized the National Guard to protect ICE immigration operations in Los Angeles. Last week, Governor Pritzker said he hopes the hearing won’t turn out to be a “dog and pony show.”
During a House hearing in April, Danielle Carter-Walters of the group Chicago Flips Red, said because of the state’s policies, lifelong residents are pushed aside, schools are overcrowded, and crime is out of control.
Last March, Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson joined Mayors of Denver, Boston and New York City to defend their cities against claims they are harboring dangerous immigrants and violating immigration laws.
