As Michael Madigan’s sentencing date approaches, a federal judge ruled to strike the former Illinois House Speaker’s net worth from the public record.
Judge John Robert Blakey ruled in favor of a defense motion to seal the number, which was already reported to be around $40 million.
Blakey suggested he could consider Madigan’s wealth for a fine, with the maximum requested by prosecutors at $2.5 million.
Illinois House Minority Leader Tony McCombie said the court would do well to deny leniency.
McCombie said Madigan’s behavior is not new in Illinois politics.
Madigan is scheduled to be sentenced Friday on 10 counts of corruption.
