Vandalia senior sprinter Sophie Bowers and junior thrower Hannah Brown have qualified for the Finals of the IHSA 1A State Track Meet after meeting the standards to move on in Thursday’s Preliminary competition at Eastern Illinois University in Charleston. Bowers has advanced in the 400m Dash after taking third place in her heat with a time of 1:00.64 that would end up being the ninth and final advancing time. With nine athletes medaling in events at State, Bowers has guaranteed a spot on the medal podium with her Finals performance on Saturday determining her final placing. The 400m Dash is set to be ran at 2:55pm. Brown punched her ticket to the Finals in the Shot Put for the second year in a row after her best toss of 37’ 1.75” put her in 10th place at the completion of Prelims with the top 12 distances advancing on. Finalists will be back at EIU on Saturday for three more throws and the top 9 will medal. Brown came up just shy of advancing in the Discus as well, as she finished in 14th place in the event with a best throw of 116’ 1”, a new PR for her. The Shot Put Finals will begin at 10:00am on Saturday morning.
