Vandalia boys track and field claimed the title of the Altamont Boys 1A Sectional on Wednesday while having six athletes qualify for the IHSA 1A State Track Meet in six events. The Vandals finished with 92 points ahead of second place Cumberland with 78 and third place Altamont and Casey-Westfield. each with 73. The Vandals have three individual state qualifiers as Kohnor Depew claimed first place in the 100m Dash and 200m Dash events, breaking his own two school records in the process, while Lucas Bowers finished second place in the High Jump and Jackson Wimberly finished second in the Pole Vault. The Vandals will also head to State in the 4×100 relay (Jay Keck, Paddy McDowell, Kohnor Depew, Ian Whitehead) after finishing in second and the 4×200 relay (Jay Keck, Paddy McDowell, Kohnor Depew, Ian Whitehead) after taking first place. The IHSA 1A State Meet will be held next week with the Prelims on Thursday, May 29 at Eastern Illinois University in Charleston.
