(Springfield, IL) — Illinois lawmakers are sending two measures related to the shooting death of Sonya Massey last year to Governor Pritzker’s desk. The state House approved a bill that would ban law enforcement agencies from hiring officers unless they authorize previous police departments they worked for to make their employment records available. A second measure approved by the House would allow Sangamon County to create a process for countywide elected officials to be recalled through a referendum vote in the 2026 election. The legislation comes after former Sangamon County Sheriff’s deputy Sean Grayson was charged in the July 6th shooting death of Massey. Grayson had two DUIs before becoming an officer.
