GOP lawmakers say a proposal to raise taxes on the wealthiest people and corporations in Illinois will be detrimental to small businesses. A group called The Illinois Revenue Alliance, which includes the Chicago Teachers Union, has joined Illinois Democrats in asking for $6 billion in new taxes. This after Governor J.B. Pritkzer said in his budget address in February there would be no new tax hikes.
State Senator Jason Plummer is not pleased with the fact that the proposed plan for the revenue includes supporting immigrant communities and providing healthcare access to all.
Senator Plummer says the proposal sends a clear message to businesses in Illinois what the reality is going to be for them if they try to do business in this unfriendly state.
