(Sangamon Co., IL) — A central Illinois man is being acquitted of murder in a 2022 wrong-way crash in Sangamon County that left a Chicago area woman dead. The jury yesterday found Shane Woods guilty of two lesser charges, aggravated driving under the influence and reckless homicide. Authorities say Woods made a drunken suicide attempt on I-55 in Sangamon County on November 8th, 2022. However, he collided with a vehicle, killing Lauren Wegner of Skokie. His sentencing is scheduled for August 19th. Woods was previously sentenced to federal prison after pleading guilty to taking part in the U.S. Capitol riot in 2021.
