Before all the budget craziness for the State of Illinois really got started, the Governor moved ahead with financing for this fiscal year for school districts in Illinois—meaning area school districts have still gotten their funding. And, Vandalia Superintendent of Schools Rich Well says their financial picture is looking OK at this point in the school year.
There are Republicans that have made the argument that by approving the budget for education, and thereby funding education thru this budget stalemate, Governor Rauner took away one of his best bargaining chips—because if education was not funded, it might bring the Democrat leaders to the table for negotiating. The state is still without a budget since July 1st.
