(Springfield, IL) — The Sangamon County Board is signing off on a ten-million-dollar settlement for the family of Sonya Massey. The board unanimously approved the payout yesterday after reaching an agreement last week. The 36-year-old Black woman was shot and killed last July inside her home in an unincorporated neighborhood of Springfield. Former Sangamon County Sheriff’s deputy Sean Grayson is charged with first-degree murder in the shooting.
