We hear more today from Fayette County Board member Merrell Collins in regards to the proposed new Fayette County Courthouse and Jail. The Fayette County Board approved to place a 1% sales tax increase on the April 1st Consolidated Election Ballot. And, if that is approved, it would be used to fund the new courthouse and jail. Collins says he believes sales tax is the fairest way.
And, Collins says for talk that this would raise property taxes, he says that’s simply not true.
The proposed project would be for a 59,700 square foot facility with an 80 bed jail at a cost of 44.3 million dollars. On April 1st, voters will decide whether or not to approve a 1% sales tax increase for 35 years to fund the project.
