The City of Vandalia has received 3 million dollars in grant money from the State of Illinois for road and water improvements to the city’s property at the west interchange.
The funding is from the State of Illinois and the Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity and was part of 31 million dollars in total awarded grants around the state as part of the Regional Site Readiness Program.
During Monday’s Vandalia City Council meeting, Mayor Rick Gottman announced the city had received the grant. Alderman Andy Lester asked the Mayor and City Administrator LaTisha Paslay to remind everyone what the money would be used for.
Alderman Bret Brosman asked about a time line on the project and Mayor Gottman and Paslay said we should know more very soon.
As Mayor Gottman mentioned, the total cost of the project is 3.75 million dollars—so the city will have to provide $750,000 for the project. Mayor Gottman said City Administrator LaTisha Paslay deserved a lot of credit for her hard work in making the grant come to fruition. Mayor Gottman also thanked the South Central Regional Planning Commission for helping the City get the grant. The amount of money received by the City of Vandalia was tied with a few other projects for the most given out under this program. Mayor Gottman says they work to keep politics out of these programs and it is based on a scoring format to receive the money.
