A very special blood drive will again take place today in Vandalia.
The Blood Drive is sponsored by the Vandalia Rotary Club and the Ledbetter family and is also in honor of Colin Ledbetter and First Responders injured in the line of duty. In January of 2022, Vandalia native and St. Louis Police Officer Colin Ledbetter and his partner were shot during a pursuit. Colin had 3 gunshot wounds—the worst to his femoral artery—which caused massive blood loss and for his heart to stop. It took a large team of EMS and dozens of blood products to save his life.
Since Colin’s injury, they have been able to collect 316 units in 3 separate blood drives. This blood drive will be held today from 11 am to 5 pm at the Vandalia Moose Lodge at 328 S. 3rd Street in Vandalia.
