An accident on Friday evening results in the death of a Greenville woman and resulted in injuries to her husband. Fayette County Coroner Dave Harris says that 67 year old Lori L. File was killed in a single vehicle accident on U.S. Route 40 near the Fayette-Bond County line. Harris says that he pronounced File dead at the scene. And, Harris reports that her husband was airlifted to a St. Louis Hospital. Harris says that personnel from Rural Med EMS and Mulberry Grove First Responders were on the scene and no further information on the accident is being released at this time.
Harris did add that Mrs. File was the sister of former Fayette County Sheriff Chris Smith.
Meanwhile, the Illinois State Police have released a preliminary report on the accident. The Illinois State Police says the accident occurred at 10:45 pm on U.S. Route 40, east of Illinois Route 140, in Fayette County. State Police report says a preliminary investigation indicates that ISP Troop 9 responded to the location for a report of a single-unit, fatal traffic crash. State Police reports says the vehicle struck a deer in the roadway. The driver then lost control, left the road, and struck a tree. State Police say the driver of the vehicle was transported to a regional hospital with injuries. The passenger was pronounced dead on the scene.
