(Taylorville, IL) — A man faces charges following an altercation with Taylorville police. Authorities say officers were called out last Thursday to a home on East Poplar, where they tried to arrest Roy Bates. Bates cut an officer with a box cutter and hit another officer in the head with a pipe. He was eventually taken into custody and four officers were treated at the hospital. The suspect is charged with attempted murder of a police officer, armed violence, attempting to disarm a police officer, and aggravated battery against police officers.
