The Thomas More Society is declaring victory after a U.S. District Court shut down Illinois’ pregnancy center law.
The lawsuit centered around Senate Bill 1909, which would allow the Illinois Attorney General’s Office to shut down pregnancy resource centers in the state if the office determined they conducted deceptive practices. Such facilities may not offer abortion services.
On Monday, after months of litigation, the Thomas More Society and Illinois Attorney General Kwame Raoul reached an agreement imposing a permanent injunction on the attorney general.
Peter Breen of the Thomas More Society explained what this means.
Breen says this is a win for Illinois and the rest of the country.
SB1909 has been called both “stupid” and very likely unconstitutional by the courts in the past.
