Vandalia Police Chief Jeff Ray says he is concerned about ambulance services for the area in the future.
This past week, the Fayette County Board voted down an agreement that would have made Rural Med the singular ambulance service in Fayette County by a vote of 6 to 5. And, Chief Ray says this makes him concerned about the future of ambulance service for Fayette County and City of Vandalia. He updated the Vandalia City Council on the situation at Monday’s meeting and shared his concerns.
Chief Ray says the big thing for the ambulance services in getting such an agreement is giving them stability in an area.
For Fayette County, their current ordinance allows the Sheriff to choose who can operate ambulance services within the county. One possible option for the City of Vandalia could be to contract with an ambulance service on their own.
