For the Vandals, it was certainly the Tale of Two Halves on Friday night.
In the first half, Hillsboro dominated the time of possession as they put together multiple sustained drives on the ground to eat up the clock. The Vandals had the ball 2 times in the first half and went 3 and out both times, gaining a total of 9 yards in the first half and were 0-2 passing. In time of possession, the Vandals would have had the ball about 90 seconds in the first half. But, although Hillsboro put together long drives (one being 96 yards) they were not able to reach the end zone. Their longest drive ended with the Vandals defense stopping them on a 4th and goal from the Vandal 2. Hillsboro scores as time expired in the first half with a 23 yard field goal.
But, the Vandals would get the offense rolling on the first possession of the second half when Andrew Kelly connected with Kohnor DePew for a 66 yard Touchdown 52 seconds into the 2nd half. The Vandals would never again trail in the game. The Vandals would add on 3 more second half TDs and they would hold Hillsboro scoreless in the 2nd half to roll to a 27 to 3 win—a game that was, at times, much closer and different than the final score would indicate.
The Vandals are now 5-2 on the season and are now playoff eligible. The Vandals can officially push their ticket to the playoffs with one more win. The Vandals will be at Gillespie for Week 8 for their final road game of the regular season.
