A tanker truck crash that killed five people just outside of the village of Teutopolis may have been caused by a car that attempted to pass the truck. Teutopolis Village President Dave Repking was one of 500 residents who were forced to leave their homes at 9 p.m. last Friday because of the anhydrous ammonia fumes that leaked after the crash.
One-hundred first responders from as far away as Champaign rushed to the scene.
A father and two children and all their livestock were killed in their yard by the fumes.
