Illinois schools are getting back into session this month, but a school official says some districts may have to pivot because of a lack of personnel. The Illinois General Assembly passed legislation to address teacher shortages, including offering retention bonuses and a measure to increase the number of days a substitute teacher can stay in the classroom. Mark Klaisner is president of the Illinois Association of Regional Superintendents of Schools.
Klaisner says 76 percent of school districts in Illinois reported problems with educator shortages. He says there is also a shortage of school bus drivers statewide.
