Gov. J.B. Pritzker has signed a measure that allows certain bathrooms in the Land of Lincoln to be genderless. House Bill 1286 allows for any multiple-occupancy restroom to be identified as an all-gender multiple-occupancy restroom and designated for use by any person of any gender. The measure was signed into law by Pritzker. State Rep. Kevin Schmidt says it is not the school’s right to enforce this on students.
State Rep. LaShawn Ford says he supports the measure and hopes the arguments against the law will be used as a guide to “set up the new bathrooms” to keep the process safe for everyone.
