A state representative says the Illinois Department of Children and Family Services shouldn’t be in the business of regulating day cares. Both Democrats and Republicans were critical of the child welfare agency’s handling of the rule-making process. During a Joint Committee on Administrative Rules hearing, state Rep. Steven Reick said the confusion has day care operators across the state “screaming” for people to do the job.
DCFS officials said they continue to work on the issue with stakeholders. Reick said they’ve heard that before.
JCAR suspended emergency rules that had DCFS regulating assistants being able to monitor rooms with infants under 2 years old.
