Illinois learned this week how much the state is getting of the nation’s over $42 billion dollar investment in broadband. Under the bipartisan infrastructure act, Illinois will receive over $1 billion dollars in federal tax funds to expand high-speed internet throughout the state. Matt Schmit, director of the Illinois Office of Broadband, says the Broadband Equity, Access and Deployment program and the Digital Equity Act will come into play in the coming months.
The funding is in addition to the $420 million dedicated to the Connect Illinois broadband infrastructure plan.
