An audit by the Illinois Auditor General shows repeated findings within operations at the Illinois State Board of Education, including issues with licensing and financial reporting. The audit looks at ISBE over the last two years up to June 30, 2022, and in total, had 15 findings and three repeat findings that ISBE did not have proper controls in place to monitor the requirements regarding professional educator license renewal. State Rep. Brad Halbrook says issues like these should be avoided at such a large state entity.
Halbrook also discussed the potential risks at play due to some of the findings.
The audit also found that ISBE overstated its budget by $305 million.
