Former Vandalia golf standout Chase Laack is adding more hardware and accomplishments to an already long list of achievements after finishing 6th at the National Junior College Athletic Association’s Division II Golf Championship at Swan Lake Resort in Plymouth, Indiana. Laack came into Friday’s final round of play in 7th place but was only one stroke off of the lead due to a 6-way tie for first. Laack had a rough front 9 going 4 over par, but turned things around on the back 9 with a birdie on the 12th hole and an eagle on the 15th hole and 6 holes for par to get down to 1 over par. A rough 18th hole where he double bogeyed capped the day with Laack at 3 over par for the round, but Laack’s back 9 effort was enough to get him into the 6th spot.
The Heartland Community College freshman had rounds of 68, 77, 69 and 75 on the par 72 course across the four days and four rounds of play in the tournament to finish at 1 over par 289. The score that was good enough for the 6th place finish also placed Laack on the All American First Team comprised of the top 8 finishers.
As for Laack’s Heartland team, they dropped three spots from the third to the fourth round, but still finished in the top 10 in the team standings with a 9th place finish. The team had a total four round score of 1206.
