The federal government’s decision to allow summertime sales of gasoline with a higher blend of ethanol is a win for Illinois farmers looking to expand the market for corn. The emergency waiver issued by the Environmental Protection Agency could help reduce prices at the pump and boost demand for the Midwest-based ethanol industry. Not everyone is on board with the move. Patrick Kelly with the American Fuels and Petrochemicals Manufacturers says the fuel is more expensive to make and states that went down this road later regretted it.
The EPA said it does not expect the move to have a significant impact on air quality and emissions.
