A Macon County judge has ruled the Illinois’ new gun ban and registry unconstitutional. The final judgment is in place pending an expected appeal to the Illinois Supreme Court. During a status hearing Friday, Macon County Judge Rodney Forbes told litigants he’d take “a couple of days” to consider signing an order that the gun ban enacted by Gov. J.B. Pritzker Jan. 10 was unconstitutional. Attorney Jerry Stocks, representing state Rep. Dan Caulkins, explained his understanding of the order.
Just an hour after the hearing, the judge issued the order. Messages seeking comment from the Illinois Attorney General and Pritzker’s office weren’t immediately returned. It’s expected they’ll file an appeal.
