Illinois Gov. J.B. Pritzker continues to defend his handling of the COVID-19 pandemic. In February 2020, the Pritzker administration said the risk to the public from the novel coronavirus was low. Two weeks later, Pritzker ordered a weeks-long stay-at-home order followed by months of consecutive disaster proclamations and executive orders. Nearly three years since, Pritzker said he reflects back on the decisions he made and the mandates he ordered.
While many of his vaccine mandates on people like college staff and students and K-12 staff were lifted, Pritzker defended the shots.
However, earlier this year in a published paper, Dr. Anthony Fauci cast doubt on the long term efficacy of the COVID-19 vaccines. Fauci, who left his role as director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases last year, made the comments in a recent medical journal piece that he co-authored. The piece says that developing long-term vaccines for respiratory conditions like COVID-19 is very difficult and a problem that still needs to be overcome, something researchers have known for years.
