Proposed measures at the Illinois statehouse could require electric vehicle charging stations in the garage of new homes, but one builder says this would increase costs. Bills filed in the House and Senate require new homes in Illinois to have built-in charging stations for EVs. Dean Graven with the Home Builders Association of Illinois says neither measure considers the added costs.
Graven says some vehicles require different outlets, and some are more expensive than others.
Similar proposals were offered in the previous General Assemlby, but didn’t advance. Lawmakers return for spring session Tuesday.
