Brownstown-St. Elmo got a big win to start pool play at the Dieterich Girls Holiday Tournament on Monday while South Central suffered a close 7-point loss to open pool play. Brownstown-St. Elmo was a 60-26 winner over Casey-Westfield to open tournament play. After outscoring the Warriors 18-6 in the first quarter and then taking a 30-16 lead at halftime, BSE would go on a 30-10 run in the second half to finish off the bug win and move to 11-3 on the season and 1-0 in pool play.
In their first pool play game, South Central would trail 15-11 at the end of the first quarter but would outscore Newton 13-9 in the second quarter as the teams went into halftime tied up at 24-24. Newton would outscore the Cougars 19-14 as South Central trailed 43-38 going into the fourth where Newton would close out the 61-54 win. South Central drops to 5-7 on the season and 0-1 in pool play.
BSE and South Central will both play their double days on Tuesday. South Central will take on Casey-Westfield at 10:00am before BSE and South Central face off at 1:00pm. BSE will then take on Newton at 4:00pm to wrap up pool play.
