Lawmakers continue to aim at making Illinois an attractive place for electric vehicle companies. Legislation was approved Thursday which would extend up to 30 years in payroll tax credits for those who work in Illinois under the Reimagining Electric Vehicles in Illinois Act. The bills’ sponsor is state Representative Mike Zalewski.
The bill also changes the definition of electric vehicle component part manufacturer in an effort to attract more EV parts companies. Zalewski believes Illinois can become a hotbed for EV manufacturing.
Electric vehicles are currently being made in Normal and Joliet, and a plant in Decatur was recently retooled to allow for the manufacturing of EV compressors.
