(Undated) — While much of the country is experiencing warm temperatures, winter officially begins tonight. Winter will start at 10:48 pm, while today will be the day with the fewest hours of sunlight all year. The winter solstice is when the sun’s path reaches its southernmost position, and starting tomorrow it will begin to advance northward.
Meanwhile, it will be the shortest day of the year with sunrise for us today at 7:11 am and sunset at 4:37 pm. We get a little more daylight each day from now until June 21st, the first day of summer.
