Name: Mable Lee Askins, 92 years old of Varna, Illinois formally of Altamont and Topeka, Illinois passed away peacefully on Saturday afternoon December 19, 2015 at 3:00 PM at her daughter’s home in Varna ( 35 miles north of Peoria, Illinois) where she made her residence for the past 3 years.
A Funeral Prayer Service will be conducted Tuesday Afternoon December 22, 2015 at 2:00 PM in the Kull Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Willie Deuel of the First United Methodist Church leading the prayer service.
A short Visitation for family and friendswill be conducted from 1:30 PM on Tuesday afternoon until the time of services of the burial services.
Burial Rites will be at the Mt. Moriah Cemetery, rural St. Elmo following the funeral prayer service.
Mable was born into the Christian family of William and Mable Watson-Grant, where she shared the house hold with her 8 siblings. She began her long life on August 25, 1923 at home in Altamont, Illinois. Mable was a seamstress and a homemaker her in entire life. She retired from the Princess Peggy clothing company. She was very proud of graduating from the 8th grade and wanted to continue her education. Besides raising a family with her late husband in her later years she volunteered for numerous activities. Mable’s great grandfather donated the land for the Mt. Moriah Cemetery, as was named for his wife Moriah.
