Just as Department of Children and Family Services Director Marc Smith was held in contempt of court a seventh time, Illinois lawmakers want immediate changes within the agency. Smith was once again held in contempt for failing to place a child appropriately. On Thursday, Representative Steven Reick said Democrats are getting in the way from making changes at DCFS.
Representative Tom Weber delivered an emotional plea on the House floor last week saying there have been too many tragedies.
According to the book “Fixing Illinois,” DCFS keeps children in foster care longer than any other state in the country.
