A group of Republican lawmakers say they are concerned about violent crime in Illinois and want to introduce a package of legislation to do something about it. At a press conference Wednesday, Senator Don DeWitte said crime is increasing in Illinois because of a severe lack of enforcement because of weak penalties that do not act as an effective deterrent.
Senator Dan McConchie said none of the anti-crime legislation was assigned to a hearing for consideration.
The group said they planned to file the legislation with hopes of getting it passed before the end of the fall veto session.
