(Collinsville, IL) — Ameren is introducing a new “gas sniffing” vehicle. The vehicle can identify the presence of methane emissions, locate the source of a potential leak, and speed up response time to repair pipelines. Ameren Illinois’ Vice President of Natural Gas Operations Eric Kozak says the technology will add to existing leak-detection activities. The vehicle is up to a thousand times more sensitive to methane in the atmosphere than other detection methods.
