The Vandals jumped out to an early lead and never looked back, as they rebounded from their Week 2 loss with a 37 to 13 win over Pana on Friday night at Mark Greer Field.
The Vandals took the opening kick off of the game after a touchback, they have the ball at their own 20 yard line to open up the game. On the very first play from scrimmage, Quarterback Qwentyn Stombaugh rank 80 yards for the TD to give the Vandals a 6 to 0 lead. The Vandals then executed and recovered a nearly perfect onside kick to get the ball right back. At 9:09 of the 1st quarter, they scored again—this time with Stombaugh connecting with Padric McDowell on a 42 yard pass to make it 12 to 0. The Vandals would keep on rolling and eventually led 24 to 0 before the end of the 1st quarter.
Pana would get on the board with a TD of their own at the 9:16 of the 2nd quarter. But, after Pana turned it over when they fumbled a punt, the Vandals would score one play later when Stombaugh connected with Cole Yarbrough on a 21 yard TD pass and the Vandals led 31 to 6 at halftime.
The second half was much slower offensively all the way around, which each team just getting one 2nd half score. So, the Vandals came away with a 37 to 13 win over Pana.
For the Vandals they are now 2-1 on the season. The Vandals will have their 2 games on the road, including this coming Friday night when travel to Piasa to take on the 2-1 Piasa Birds.
