The Brownstown/St. Elmo Bombers scored a combined 6 runs in the sixth and seventh innings, but could not overcome an early 9-0 deficit, falling to the Neoga Indians 10-6 on Friday night at Grimes Park in Mattoon. Neoga scored one run in the first, four in the second, and two in the third and fourth to jump out to a 9-0 lead. BSE got on the board in the top of the sixth when Jayce Gillespie tripled to score Calvin Voelker, making the score 9-1. Logan Lach reached on an error, allowing Gillespie to score, cutting the deficit to 9-2. Nolan Wilhour singled to score Lach, capping off the 3-run sixth for the Bombers, making the score 9-3. Neoga would get a run back in the bottom of the sixth, extending their lead to 10-3. BSE made things interesting in the top of the seventh when Voelker singled to score Fred Towler, and Sullivan Smith, cutting the deficit to 10-5. One batter later, Gillespie reached on an error, allowing Voelker to score, making the score 10-6, but the Bombers were unable to get any closer, falling to Neoga 10-6. BSE is now 5-3 on the season and 1-3 in the NTC. The Bombers will be on the road on Tuesday for an NTC matchup with Dieterich.
